What is FastPass+ in Disney World?

FastPass+ is a free service that reserves you a spot to skip the majority of the line for a specific attraction in Walt Disney World theme parks.

If you are staying on WDW property you are eligible to make your FastPass reservations for the entirety of your trip 60 days before you check in. If you are staying off property, you are eligible to make FastPass reservations 30 days before each day you will use a park ticket.

You make these reservations in advance on the My Disney Experience App or under the My Disney Experience drop down on the WDW website.

If they aren’t already there, be sure to link your tickets on your My Disney Experience app before you try to make any FastPass reservations.

If you’ll be making selections for other people in your party, be sure they are sharing their accounts or you have their tickets linked under your My Disney Experience so you are able to make the selection for everyone in your party. I find this to be easiest on the website by selecting “My Friends and Family” from the My Disney Experience drop down, then adding/inviting people if necessary.

You get three FastPass selections to begin your day.  All three must be in the same park, even if you have park hopper tickets.  After you’ve used your three initial FastPass selections, you can continue to get more throughout the day, including attractions at a different park than you started in, but now you can only make reservations one at a time.

FastPass has a limited amount of reservations per attraction for each day, so ideally, you’ll get onto the app or website right at 7am WDW time and start to make your selections as soon as they open the day you’re eligible.  This will give you the best chance of getting the attractions you wanted during the time frame you wanted.

Since you can make more FastPass selections after your first three have been used, past their time window, or been cancelled, it is ideal to make your first three selections as early in the morning as you can, so then you are able to grab more throughout the day. For example, if you have FastPass at 4pm as one of your initial three selections, you can’t get any other ones until after the 4pm pass has been used. Sometimes if you really want one of the more popular rides, the only option left may be later in the day, and perhaps it’s worth it to you to be able to skip that line and just ride other attractions in the stand-by line.

Just to make things more interesting, WDW has put tiers into place for FastPass selections.  You can only make select one FastPass for a tier one attraction to begin with. The other two selections will have to be from the second tier.

Tier 1 Attractions

Animal Kingdom

  • Avatar Flight of Passage
  • Na’vi River Journey

Epcot

  • Frozen Ever After
  • Soarin’
  • Test Track

Hollywood Studios

  • Mickey and Minnie’s Runaway Railway
  • Millennium Falcon: Smugglers Run
  • Slinky Dog Dash

All attractions at Magic Kingdom are on the same tier, so you can get any three FASTPASS selections.

After your initial three selections have been used, you can look for another tier one attraction.  They can be hard to find, but definitely possible and worth looking for!
